The unique aspect of this concert in the huge Houston Astrodome is this that it is without an orchestra.
As the audience is far away from the stage it is hardly audible and this makes the show almost sound like a rehearsal. Probably because of this simple setting the oldies like Trying to Get to You and Johnny B. Goode are among the best tracks of the show. The instrumental break in Polk Salad Annie makes you almost wish Elvis never used an orchestra, the TCB Band is all Elvis needed'. [George Harrison is on record saying the same thing!!!] [Perhaps many would argue with this and I for one like Elvis' live recordings as they are but it sure makes for an interesting change!!!!] So there you have it, excellent quality, great packaging.
Out now from Venus is the March 3, 1974 Houston show on CD, titled The 8th Wonder Of The World, taken from a first generation source. Unlike other labels, who pretend to have found new sources, Venus has always lived up to their promises and released top notch quality.
This time Venus promises you again a vast improvement in sound and you will again be very happy with it.
Prepare yourself for a very special, great sounding show and get ready for: The 8th Wonder Of The World!
